My body does not yet know of the change - a poem

My body does not yet know of the change
by Anita Cassidy

My body does not yet know of the change
It still knows only emptiness
Starved and hollowed out
It will take time though I know not how much

I will, then, nourish myself from within
With words and music
And allow myself to receive love from without
I thank you for your kisses, kind words and hugs
They mean more than you can know

I know you wish they helped now
But the wounds are old and deep
I know you wish I was healed now
All I can say is that I will be
And so will you

In healing ourselves we heal each other
In healing ourselves we heal the old and deep hurts
Of the world
